Poster of movie Boombastic 2014 shot in Watu, Ngada Bajawa, Floresm Indonesia. A story of sex, humanitarianism, and filmmaking.

Boombastic (2014, 74 min)
Directed by Malcolm Wyer

With a grant awarded by Carnegie Mellon University, Malcolm produced Hello Mister (2002, 37 min), an ethnographic documentary profile about two local tour-guides in the Ngada region of Flores, Indonesia. In 2009, Malcolm worked alongside two NGOs—Global Water and Community Futures—to install a solar-powered water pump system in Watu, Maghilewa, and Jere villages.  Boombastic is a fictionalized personal essay shot alongside the installation, and it chronicles the pitfalls of cross-cultural humanitarianism, sex, and filmmaking.  These projects represent nearly twenty years of narrative experimentation and editorial torment, and the footage still awaits its final abandonment.
